Testing Procedures

Import Fiber:

Import Fiber Simplex and Duplex Assemblies:

Import fiber comes with test results in the bag. MM cables have insertion loss results. SM cables have both insertion loss and back reflection. These are not serialized. Once the cable is separated from the test result, there is no way to trace the test result back to that particular cable.

Domestic Fiber:

Simplex and Duplex assemblies:

Every cable is serialized and 100% tested. All connectors are visually inspected to ensure the product meets end face visual requirements. MM cables are tested for insertion loss. SM cables are tested for insertion loss as well as back reflection. Test results ARE NOT included with the assemblies unless requested by the customer. The test results are stored in a data base where we can pull from the data base and provide to the customer, based on the serial number, if there are any issues with an individual cable. Test results from an entire order can be provided as well in electronic form if the customer needs this as part of a project requirement. We are going green everywhere we can, so we decided to get away from printed individual test results (considering 90% end up in the trash). If our customer wants test results to submit for a project, we then prefer to send an electronic copy.

Pre-Terminated Fiber Trunks:

Every cable is serialized and 100% tested. All connectors are visually inspected to ensure the product meets end face visual requirements. MM cables are tested for insertion loss. SM cables are tested for insertion loss as well as back reflection. For pre-terminated fiber trunks, test results ARE included with the assemblies. Although we send the test results with the pre-terms, test results are also stored in a data base where we can provide results to the customer, based on the serial number. Test results from an entire order can be provided as well in electronic form, if the customer needs this as part of a project requirement. We decided to continue to supply printed test results with the pre-terminated trunks since there are typically only a small quantity with each order and many contractors keep these results for project submittal.

Copper:

Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A Copper Assemblies:

For category copper cables, ZERO’s cables are 100% channel tested. No test results are saved or included with the cables unless requested by the customer prior to production. Printed test results can be provided upon prior request from the customer, for an additional charge. If a customer requests results, they will be serialized and the test results will be saved and named according to the serialized cable under each test.
